The National Prosecuting Authority is refusing to allow the police to drop a complaint of assault against ANC MP Mduduzi Manana.

"The police's exercising of their responsibility to continue the investigation is commendable - despite his domestic worker dropping the complaint she initially laid".

Manana said the fresh assault allegations are a smear campaign following his conviction in the Randburg Magistrate's Court for assaulting three women at a Johannesburg nightclub a year ago.

She told police that Manana had previously verbally abused her, made her work long hours and threatened to have her deported back to her home country, Zimbabwe.

The Minister in the Presidency Responsible for Women, Bathabile Dlamini, on Wednesday denounced the violence reportedly meted out to domestic worker Catherine Wiro allegedly by her high profile employer, Mduduzi Manana.

"The new allegations levelled against me are both unfortunate and malicious", he said in a statement.

Officer involved in former football player's violent arrest is fired
The police report states a man from the other auto told police Marrow tailed them closely and even damaged the vehicle. He said he told police he was trying to follow the men so he could get their license plate and talk to the men.

In the recording exposed by TimesLives, Manana is heard saying: "Just for any consolation, just to take care of mama for what she feels is humiliation, I can give a consolation to her, not the money she needs or the money she was earning, I'm saying a consolation for her to take care of her health, her family, at least of R100 [000]".

The ANCYL wishes to join many leading South African voices in condemning the unrepentant behavior of Manana. Mr Manana was also to undergo counselling to address the underlying causes of his violent behaviour against women. "His unrepentant actions are harming the image and public standing of the ANC", it said.

The minister says she's concerned that the altercation between Manana and Wiro has played out in the media.

"The allegations of violence have resurfaced against Mr Manana, who as a leader, has been entrusted by the public to represent them at the Parliament of the republic". Such leader must therefore live his life as a living reflection of the aspirations of our Constitution.

Stander said she was pleased to hear that the police were still investigating the latest charges against him even though they had been withdrawn.

The youth league is calling for Manana to "do the honourable thing" and resign from the NEC and parliament. "He has broken his oath of office and taxpayers should not be made to pay the salary of a woman abuser".
