Europe is looking at ways to save the Iran nuclear deal and protect their economic ties with Tehran a day after President Trump announced the US exit from the agreement.

Oil-rich Saudi Arabia has long said it would match any Iranian weapons development, but Jubeir's renewed vow came after US President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of an accord created to prevent Tehran's path to a bomb.

As returned Peace Corps volunteers who served in Iran from 1967 to 1969, we view President Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear agreement as a grave tragedy.

"The composition of what happens when we sit down with the Iranians is several stages out", the official said, adding that talks would focus on how to raise pressure on Iran "in a way that is constructive and conducive to bringing them to the negotiating table". "And hopefully, that won't be the case".

President Trump's dramatic decision to quit the Iran nuclear deal involves reinstating economic sanctions aimed at hurting the Iranian economy.

"I would advise Iran not to start their nuclear program", Trump told reporters at the start of a Cabinet meeting when asked about the potential consequences.

Trump cites a few different reasons for wanting to pull out of the Iran deal and, arguably, none of them are actually good enough to blow up an global agreement that literally prevents a nation from developing devastating nuclear missiles. Iran also must undergo periodic checks from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to confirm on a regular basis that they are in compliance with the deal.

Under the financial sanctions, European companies will have 90 to 180 days to wind down their operations in Iran, or they will run afoul of the American banking system. I mean, these are - they've made business deals worth billions of dollars in Tehran. And if they are to continue to submit to the very onerous and intrusive inspection and oversight of their nuclear program, making absolutely sure that there is no way they can ever deviate from the agreement and head towards nuclear weapons, then it's understandable that in return they do want to see some economic benefit. During the last round of sanctions, India enjoyed waivers allowing limited Iranian oil imports paid for in rupees instead of USA dollars.

James Lucier and Tristan Berne of Capital Alpha Partners said in an emailed note that, "Countries that seek a "significant reduction" waiver from the State Department in order to avoid secondary sanctions will need to demonstrate reductions in purchases by November 4th, so changes in buying patterns should be observed in the coming months".

But Trump, a severe critic of the deal dating back to his 2016 presidential campaign, said Tuesday in a televised address from the White House that it was "defective at its core".

Some analysts pointed to the disconnect in Trump's remarks - demanding adherence to the terms of a deal he'd just quit - as well as his threats to Iran and warned that the President may be spoiling for a fight.

America's European allies were dismayed by the decision, which fell even as London, Paris and Berlin were trying to negotiate a tougher accord to placate Trump.

The deal was made "possible after years of negativity, in the end raising hope all around the globe".

Long squeezed by both USA pressure and their own government, they had just cause for optimism. He added that if relations between the US and Iran improve and the sales are reinstated, it will be a bonus.

But officials are privately skeptical about how long it can survive, particularly if the United States imposes sanctions on European companies doing business in Iran. "Withdrawing from this agreement makes the United States, and the world, less secure".
