Cyber attack on Family Planning NSW client database
Family Planning New South Wales databases were hacked on Anzac Day, with cyber attackers holding clients' personal information at ransom, for bitcoin.
It's believed the databases contained information of clients who had contacted Family Planning NSW to make an appointment or leave feedback through its website, in the past two-and-a-half years.
Family Planning NSW said that the web form "does not connect to our internal medical records"; however, it was unclear how much detail the form asked people to submit when making requests.
It is understood the information that was potentially compromised were the personal details clients entered via an online form, including names, contact details and the reason for their enquiries.
The organisation's message says the site was "secured by 10am on April 26", and "more sensitive medical records held internally were never under threat".
"Since the attack, we have had no evidence that this information has been used by the cyber-attackers", the email to patients said.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in April issued its first report on the scheme, which revealed it had received 63 reports of data breaches.
"We are conducting a thorough review of our information security to ensure all clients can continue to trust us for their reproductive and sexual health services".
Brassil said that the organisation was not the sole target of the attack.
