Trump has vowed that he will not let that happen and has demanded that North Korea give up its nukes.

He said the USA wants to ensure that its efforts yield the end result, that North Korea should not become a threat to the world.

He was speaking after talks with South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha to coordinate preparations for the historic encounter.

The Korean Central News Agency said in a commentary on Saturday that only Japan is engaging in distorted behavior by once again making noise about the issue, while the rest of the world is welcoming the upcoming summit between the United States and the North.

China is now North Korea's biggest trade partner and the peninsula nation relies heavily on China for its economy.

Following the Moon-Kim summit, Moon's office said Kim was willing to disclose the process to global experts, but the North's statement Saturday didn't include any mention about allowing experts on the site.

South Korea's Kang shared in Pompeo's optimism and was at pains to insist that there is no daylight between how Washington and Seoul are approaching the talks.

Responding to a question about Kim's personality, Pompeo said, "You asked about my conversations with Chairman Kim".

"If North Korea takes daring motion to rapidly denuclearize the USA is ready to work with North Korea to attain prosperity on the par with our South Korean buddies". He said past efforts to denuclearize North Korea had failed because of hasty rewards and the same mistakes should not be repeated.
