The AAI has already sought a report on the incident from the city airport authorities but as it was an incident of security lapse, the CISF, which looks after security of the airport, will probe the incident.

"It was a stray cow that entered from the cargo terminal side".

In this photograph taken September 1, 2017 a worker sits next to cows at a British-era dairy farm opened in 1889 that is now run by the Indian military in Allahabad. In February previous year, an IndiGo flight at Ahmedabad was delayed on the takeoff strip because of the presence of rabbits on the runway.

The freak accident occurred around 3 a.m., according to airport sources. The bovine moved slowly past the security at a cargo gate at the airport in India's state of Gujarat to ramble near the runway, sparking a rodeo chase with guards. Airport director V V Rao dismissed reports that the tractor was parked on the runway. "The chairman has asked the airport director to ascertain the possibility of negligence".

"Directives have been given to take stringent steps to avoid any such occurrences in future", said an AAI statement.

In recent times, runways in Indian airports have been invaded by a variety of mammals - ranging from hyenas and jackals at the global airport in New Delhi, to spotted deer and wild boars in Nagpur, and the common stray dog in Chennai. The airport authorities are also planning to double the gates of the airport and also to put animal traps to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
