During a meeting with several senators in the Oval Office, President Trump reportedly questioned why the United States would accept more immigrants from "s***hole countries".
"The American people will ultimately judge us on the outcome we achieve, not the process which led to it".
Many supporters and critics swiftly condemned the president's comments, while some of his biggest supporters defended him.
Over the course of five rapid-fire tweets, followed by one more 40 minutes later about Haiti, he denied the reported language choice, while doubling down on his immigration stance.
Since taking office a year ago, Trump has pursued controversial policies aimed at curbing immigration into the United States as part of a hard-line "America First" agenda.
President Trump has since denied using vulgar language at his immigration meeting.
