The Omaha bank appears to have been the first to respond.

Some of the backlash has centered on the National Rifle Association (NRA), an organization that promotes gun rights in the United States.

Earlier this week, First National Bank also announced that it would not renew an existing contract with the gun group, adding that the company will soon stop issuing NRA Visa Cards to members due to "customer feedback".

Enterprise followed suit a few hours later. Business Insider reported, though, that Wyndham ended its discount program for NRA members late previous year. They include Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National, Alamo, Hertz, and Avis Budget Group.

The arrangement that offered discounts to NRA members was discontinued Thursday. Vehicle rental company Hertz and Symantec Corp., the software company that makes Norton Antivirus technology, did the same.

It has now spread across multiple industries and affected some of the world's largest corporations.

American companies are rising up against gun violence after a call to boycott the National Rifle Association (NRA) became the top trend on Twitter (#boycottNRA) as users of the global social media platform demanded that companies should sever their ties with the pro-gun group in the aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The hotel chains Best Western and Wyndham Hotels announced they are no longer affiliated with the NRA. As a result of the social media driven boycott, some companies have dropped their relationship with the NRA.

"For any of these named companies that are trying to recruit young people, if they feel part of their growing consumer base is being hurt, especially for college-aged people and below, then it's really unsafe for them to have this overt connection", Hunter-McDonnell said.
