Former ISU player Upshaw dies after collapsing on court

Zeke Upshaw, a former Hofstra University basketball star, died on Monday morning after collapsing during a Grand Rapids Drive NBA G-League game against the Long Island Nets on Saturday night. The news of his passing came on Monday afternoon in a statement released by his mother, Jewel. With privacy and respect for the Upshaw family, no other medical information will be disseminated. "To family, friends, teammates, coaches, fans and confidants, thank you for your prayers and support during this most hard time". We'd like to thank the many doctors and nurses at Spectrum Health for their efforts in caring for our son.

"The entire Grand Rapids Drive family is mourning the tragic loss of Zeke Upshaw", said Steve Jbara, owner of the Grand Rapids Drive. He was rushed to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital as emergency crews worked to save his life.

Upshaw was a two-year player for the Drive, drafted in the fourth round of the G League's Developmental Draft in 2016. Upshaw also played for the Drive last season.
