Jimmy Garoppolo trade just got a little worse for New England Patriots - because Jon Gruden lost a coin flip
On Friday morning, a coin toss was set to determine which Bay Area team - the San Francisco 49ers or Oakland Raiders - would pick ninth in the 2018 NFL Draft.
A coin flip was used as a tiebreaker between the two teams because the 49ers and Raiders each finished with 6-10 records and matching strength-of-schedules (.512). Former Raider and 49er Rod Woodson flipped the coin in front of the bench press at the Indiana Convention Center around 12:30 p.m. EST, and it landed on the 49ers logo. Raiders coach Jon Gruden and GM Reggie McKenzie also attended. Thanks to the result of the coin flip, that draft pick will be the 43rd-overall and not the 41st.
The 49ers, who were not awarded any compensatory picks this year, now own nine selections in April's draft.

In their latest mock drafts, NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks see the 49ers selecting Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds with their first pick of the draft, which takes place April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
