Offaly has been hit with a new weather warning for heavy snow on Wednesday night.

Based on updated weather warnings from Met Éireann, the company will not operate any services in Leinster and Munster tomorrow, Friday, March 2nd.

Meanwhile, schools in Dundalk, Louth and across the rest of Leinster and Munster will remain closed for Thursday and Friday as Storm Emma intensifies.

It came into effect at 1pm and remains in place until 6am tomorrow. "Southern and eastern coastal counties expected to receive exceptionally high accumulations", states the updated warning.

Met Éireann's weather reports for at 8pm this evening showed only one weather station recording a temperature above freezing.

Bus Éireann say that all city routes are operating tomorrow.

Belmullet in Co. Mayo recorded a temperature of 1 degree, while Cork Airport clocked in the lowest at -3 degrees. Strong to gale force easterly winds will bring the risk of coastal flooding along southern and eastern coasts.

The forecaster added: "Tomorrow will stay bitterly cold and windy with further snow accumulating, but drier periods at times in northern and northwestern counties".

More than 16cm of snow fell in parts of the east last night.
