Bazley had been committed to Syracuse, but he will decommit so he can sign a G League contract upon turning 18, according to Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania. It'll be extremely interesting to see what sort of precedent this sets moving forward, especially considering the shadow looming over college basketball thanks to the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into corruption within the sport.

Yahoo Sports points out that while many athletes have opted to play in Europe to meet the NBA's requirement of being one year removed from high school, Bazley's move to the G League is "unprecedented".

Since 2001, the NBA has had an official minor league, formerly called the NBA Development League, or D-League, but renamed the G League previous year after a sponsorship arrangement with Gatorade. Instead he'll try his luck in the G League.

Bazley's route is an unorthodox one, as many players that choose to bypass their mandatory college years tend to go overseas to play.

"I will get more out of that than going overseas", Bazley told Yahoo!

However, Bazley has decided that he'll be better prepared for the National Basketball Association by joining the G League, making him the first major college prospect to do so. In the past, if a player was ruled ineligible for college or wanted to skip college, he generally went overseas - like Brandon Jennings, Emmanuel Mudiay and Terrance Ferguson. I will always encourage my kids to make history, to be the best that they can be, and don't forget about those who are coming behind you. I'm not playing any games with this. This is strictly basketball.

With an expected salary of roughly $25,000, Bazley won't get paid very much, but unlike college players, he will be able to collect possible endorsement money right away, take advantage of other opportunities and hire professional representation. "That's what I want". I see most guys now are spending time in the G League even after they went to school and the draft, so this gives me the chance to accelerate the process. "There's no screwing around. I literally hang out with friends at home or I'm in the gym".
