Report: ESPN and FOX Sports Team Up to Make Joint Bid on UFC Television Rights
The streaming service could get as many as 15 events if the two companies split the UFC TV package, for ESPN paying $120M-$180M per year.
Fox signed a seven-year television deal with UFC in 2011, and late last year put in a roughly $200 million bid to secure those rights - far lower than the Endeavor asking price.
Fox pays $120M/year for the rights and could go to over $200M for its part.
While Fox and Disney have fought each other in years past to secure various U.S. TV sports packages, UFC would not mark the first league to which these rivals have shared rights.
Endeavor, the UFC's parent company, bought the promotion for around $4 billion in the summer of 2016, and has been reportedly seeking a new media partnership worth $300 million to $400 million a year.
According to a report from Variety, ESPN and FOX Sports are set to team up for a proposal to land the premier mixed martial arts organization. The UFC and FOX had an exclusive negotiation period, but they were never able to agree to terms. Fox's current package includes four Saturday-night fights per year on Fox Broadcasting and a number of fight events on cabler Fox Sports 1 that has increased annually under its current agreement.

The UFC has been hunting for a new TV rights deal since an exclusive negotiating period with FOX expired past year. The service launched this past week and costs $4.99 per month.
It appears the UFC became a bigger priority to ESPN after launching their streaming service while new president James Pitaro looks to increase viewers after the network had been hemorrhaging subscribers over the past few years. UFC has suffered significant ratings declines in recent years.
Officials from ESPN and FOX Sports have yet to comment.
