United boss Mourinho declined to answer when asked on Wednesday if he had been to visit Ferguson, saying he wanted to respect the family's wish for privacy.

If Mourinho trusts Carrick's opinion enough to have him play a role in transfer policy then the pair could well form an excellent partnership as the former England global makes his first steps into coaching.
