'Strong Tehran means strong Ankara': Turkey vows to maintain trade with Iran

Turkish President Erdogan is in the United Kingdom for a three-day official visit.

The Turkish leader will also meet business investors during the visit and speak at the Chatham House think tank.

Turkey stands for continuation of close economic cooperation with Great Britain in the period after Brexit, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Speaking at a forum on Turkish-British relations, Erdogan noted that in July 2016, the British government quickly condemned a coup attempt against him and said Turkey "will never forget this solidarity".

The Turkish president said bilateral cooperation between the two countries has grown, especially since the referendums that changed Turkey's governing system to an executive presidency and paved the way for Britain's departure from the European Union.

Turkey has "more extensive" economic ties with Iran, including energy imports from the country, he said.

Ankara and Tehran will continue their economic relations despite the USA leaving the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, according to Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci.

Global supervising agencies have said that Iran is in full compliance with the deal, but Trump's administration repeatedly said Iran was breaking the "spirit" of the agreement.

During the meeting they discussed the situation related to unilateral United States withdrawal from the Joint comprehensive plan of action (SVPD) on the Iranian nuclear program, the press service of the Kremlin.
