"We have not heard anything from that government or the Government of South Korea to indicate that we would not continue conducting these exercises or that we would not continue planning for our meeting between President Trump and Kim Jong Un next month", she told reporters.

A North Korean official said earlier Wednesday that Pyongyang won't agree to USA demands to give up its nuclear weapons unilaterally. "But like I said if they want to meet, the president will certainly be ready and we'll be prepared".

"We haven't been notified at all" about North Korea's threat to cancel the planned summit, Trump later said as he welcomed the Uzbek president to the White House.

North Korea said Wednesday it is canceling high-level talks with South Korea and threatened to pull out of a summit with the United States over the allies' ongoing military exercises.

With North Korea blasting Trump's National Security Adviser John Bolton and his "Libya model" statements, the White House press secretary had this to say.

"All parties concerned, especially the DPRK and the United States, should move toward each other, release each other's goodwill and sincerity, create favorable conditions and (an) atmosphere for the leaders' meeting, and realize the denuclearization of the peninsula", Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said on Wednesday.

Pyongyang also raised hopes ahead of the U.S. summit by announcing it will destroy its nuclear testing site next week.

President Donald Trump, along with first lady Melania Trump, welcomed the former hostages back from North Korea early Thursday morning at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. In return U.S. would aid North Korean economy by lifting sanctions and allowing private capital to flow into the country.

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the USA had not heard anything directly from North or South Korea that would change that.

Kim was clearly signaling he's not done yet with the classic North Korean strategy of provocations and demands.
